So you want to try your hand at the world's most massively played online multi player game? You may have consulted different sources to get information about the different versions and the expansion sets of the game. By now you might know all about the races, classes and factions. You probably know a lot about building and joining guilds. If that is so then it is time to choose a career for your character.
The professions of World of Warcraft can be divided in to three categories. The first category is of those professions which are very basic in nature. People associated to these careers obtain the raw materials for selling. These raw materials are used for the second category of professions. The examples of raw materials are minerals (which are obtained by mining) and animal skins (which are obtained by skinning). These professions are also called basic because their professionals earn money no matter what. The raw materials have a variety of uses. For example, if you are into mining the mineral ores will sell like hot cakes. People use them to sell again after refining. People smelt them with other minerals. The metals are required by the blacksmiths and engineers, etc. Selling cloth is also a basic profession. The cloth is often dropped by humanoids so choosing to sell them does not require any investment. The basic professions do not involve any risk but they do not earn much profit. However, taking training in any of these professions is the best for a beginner. It will earn him/her a basic skill and he/she will at least never run out of money.
The second category of the professions requires the raw materials to manufacture some finished products. The examples of these kinds of professions are leather crafting, shoe making and being a black smith. The best time to adopt one of these professions is when one is trained in the basic skill that produces raw materials for this profession. If one chooses to be a blacksmith but has to buy metals for making armor then the profit margin will be reduced considerably. Whereas being apt at a skill will not only save a lot of money but will also earn a lot of skill points. If you want to be a cobbler or a leather crafter then it is a good idea to learn the skinning first.
The third kind of profession is that in which both raw materials and some finished products are required to manufacture high class and very sophisticated products. An example of such a profession in World of Warcraft is engineering. Enchanting is also a very popular profession. Both engineering and enchanting are very costly and time consuming professions but they guarantee hefty profits. The right time to be an engineer or enchanter is when you have accumulated a lot of wealth and have made a lot of good friends. Of course, only friends will give you discount at the raw materials.
So try your luck at World of Warcraft. I wish you all the best.
